Ottawa goalie Andrew Hammond handled the Battle of Ontario, Montreal's Carey Price became the first to 40, while Vancouver and Winnipeg held their ground in the standings.

Push to the playoffs
The "Hamburglar" stole his first NHL point with an assist on Kyle Turris' empty-net goal in Ottawa's 5-3 defeat of the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Andrew Hammond is undefeated in regulation in 14 starts to further sweeten his record season, and put his team within a point of the final wild card spot in the east.
On the other end of the ice, Leafs goalie James Reimer was pulled early in the second after allowing three goals on 18 shots.
Predictably, the Battle of Ontario saw no love lost in the third match of the season. Toronto forward Zach Sill dropped the gloves with Eric Gryba and Mark Borowiecki to try to spark something in his team.
Price is right
Montreal Canadiens goalie Carey Price had his second consecutive shutout to help his team to a 2-0 victory over the visiting San Jose Sharks.
The 27-year-old made 29 saves to become the first netminder to earn 40 wins this season. In fact, Price also leads all goalies in shutouts (nine), save percentage (.937), and goals against average (1.89).
Forward Alex Galchenyuk also had a banner night, scoring his 100th NHL point with an assist on Tomas Plekanec's first period goal.
Divisional rivalry gets heated
Canucks forward Radim Vrbata scored the game-winner in a 4-1 triumph over the Los Angeles Kings. In claiming the victory, Vancouver maintained sole possession of the second spot in the Pacific division.
The Kings had the opportunity to tie the Canucks, but instead fell behind by four points.
Los Angeles centre Tyler Toffoli's five-minute major and game misconduct in a boarding call against Canucks forward Alex Burrows played a role in the King's defeat.
Vrbata scored the go-ahead goal 26 seconds into the penalty.
Another big win
After a 5-1 blowout loss to the Washington Capitals a month ago, the Winnipeg Jets rebounded nicely in their second and final meeting of the season.
Winnipeg held the league's top-scorer Alex Ovechkin and the rest of the Capitals off the score sheet entirely with a 3-0 shutout win.
Mark Scheifele and Drew Stafford each had two-point nights, while Ondrej Pavelec earned his 17th win. Their fourth-straight victory gives Winnipeg a four-point lead on the Kings for the final wild card spot in the West.
Overtime success
The Edmonton Oilers outlasted the Philadelphia Flyers with a 5-4 overtime win thanks to two goals from Ryan Nugent-Hopkins.
The 21-year-old scored the game-winner and had a three-point night in the thrilling match. In his return from injury, Taylor Hall assisted on the deciding goal.
Flyers captain Claude Giroux scored two goals for Philadelphia.
In other Canadian games, the Columbus Blue Jackets completed a Western Canada sweep with a 3-2 overtime victory against the Calgary Flames.
