Olympic champion Jennifer Jones' Canadian rink suffered its first loss, 8-6 to Sweden, at the world women's curling championship Sunday in Sapporo, Japan.

It dropped Canada's record to 2-1.

Jones jumped ahead 3-0 in the first end while the Swedes answered with two in the second.

Canada led 5-4 after six but Sweden's Margaretha Sigfridsson scored three in the eighth and another in the ninth to lead 8-5 before Jones counted one more in the tenth.

In an earlier 9-4 win Sunday over Scotland, Jones led 5-2 by the fifth end and sealed the lopsided affair with two more in the seventh and another two in the eighth and final end.

Scotland, skipped by 2013 world champion Eve Muirhead, managed just one point in the third, another in the fourth and two in the sixth.

Jones and her team of lead Dawn McEwen, second Jill Officer and third Kaitlyn Lawes beat Finland 9-6 in Saturday's opener.

Jones beat Sigfridsson to win gold at the Sochi Games last year.

She and her team are trying to become the first reigning Olympic champions to win both the Canadian and world championships the following season.

The top four teams at the end of round-robin play will advance to the Page playoffs, with the medal games set for March 22.

A Canadian team hasn't won gold at the women's worlds since Jones took the 2008 title with Cathy Overton-Clapham at third. Lawes replaced Overton-Clapham in 2010.

Jones, a five-time national champion, made her world championship debut in 2005. She won a world silver in 2010.

Canada leads all countries with 15 gold medals and 31 podium appearances at the world championship since 1979. Sweden is next with eight gold and 23 medals in total.
