Rangers goalie Henrik Lundqvist escaped a serious injury after a scary and bizarre play Saturday night against the Carolina Hurricanes.

With heavy traffic in front of the Rangers' net, Lundqvist took a puck to the throat off a shot by Hurricanes forward Brad Malone.

During a second-period battle in the crease with Hurricanes forward Jay McClement, Rangers captain Ryan McDonagh's stick lifted Lundqvist's mask up, giving the puck enough space to hit the New York goaltender in the throat.

Lunqvist immediately went down in obvious pain. But after being attended to by the team's trainer, he remained in the game.
