It was a Saturday of streaks for Canadian teams in the NHL with the Leafs descending to a worrisome nine-game losing stretch, while the Canadiens extending their winning ways to five games, and the Jets dropped their third in a row.
Here's five stories you need to know.
Leafs lose 9th in a row
The Toronto Maple Leafs, whose losing streak extended to a season-worst, were downed by the Flyers 1-0, and now have the lowest scoring month in franchise history.
It's not pretty. The dismal Leafs have gone 1-11-1, scoring 16 times in 13 games in January; that's an average of 1.23 goals per game. This is the first time the Leafs have lost nine in a row since the 1985/1986 season.
The Flyers goalie Steve Mason earned his 25th career shutout as Philadelphia has now won four in a row.
It was almost 2-0 had Leafs goalie James Reimer not made a key snag as the puck was about to cross the line off a shot from Andrew MacDonald.
Reimer hasn't won a game since Dec.14, going 0-4-0 in January.
Canadians win 5th in a row
The drive for five wins in a row was sealed for the Montreal Canadiens with an outstanding chip-in overtime goal from forward Max Pacioretty as they hosted the Washington Capitals.
Pacioretty rushed the net and got his stick on the puck as Tomas Plekanec threw it out front, resulting in a nice little chip over the shoulder of Capitals goalie Braden Holtby. Pacioretty sacrificed his body for the goal, crashing to the ice as he made contact with the puck.
Pacioretty's goal was the only offence on display at the Bell Centre as the Habs won 1-0.
This is the second straight game a goal from Pacioretty was the difference for the Canadiens. He scored a third-period goal Thursday against the Rangers to secure the 1-0 victory. Carey Price earned back-to-back shutouts.
Sens score twice in 20 seconds
The Ottawa Senators had a memorable third period against the Arizona Coyotes, scoring four goals including two within 20 seconds. Forwards Bobby Ryan and Jean-Gabriel Pageau each put one in the net less than three minutes into the third period to give Ottawa a four-goal lead over the Coyotes.
Erik Karlsson almost burned a whole through the net with a beauty slapper from the high slot for Ottawa's sixth goal of the night. They would add one more to beat the Coyotes 7-2
Oh, and Senators defenceman Marc Methot laid out a hip check so nice, it flipped Lucas Lessio end over end.
Flames score 4 unanswered goals in the 3rd
The Calgary Flames lit up the goal light in the third period, netting four unanswered goals against the Edmonton Oilers beating them 4-2 and settling this instalment of the battle of Alberta. Forward Lance Bouma got two while Paul Byron and Sean Monahan added one a piece to the late rally.
Jets lose 3 in a row, take 12 penalties
It shouldn't surprise anyone that the Dallas Stars won on four power-play goals considering the Winnipeg Jets got 12 penalties including three from defenceman Dustin Byfuglien. It wasn't a great night for the Jets who have now lost three in a row with the 5-2 defeat at the hands of the Stars.
Stars defenceman John Klingberg had a four-point night netting two goals and assisting on two others. He was already the highest scoring rookie defenceman in franchise history but Saturday night certainly cemented that position.
