The Evander Kane saga is over.
After a turbulent season, Kane was dealt to the Buffalo Sabres on Wednesday.
The Sabres also get defenceman Zach Bogosian and goaltending prospect Jason Kasdorf.
In return, the Jets received defenceman Tyler Myers, forwards Drew Stafford and Joel Armia, the rights to forward prospect Brendan Lemieux and a 2015 first-round draft pick.
On paper, the Jets get the best of both worlds.
In Myers and Stafford, Winnipeg has a pair of players that hopefully boosts its playoff chances.
The Jets also received a first-round pick — the lowest of the three Sabres' selection the June draft — plus prospects Armia and Lemieux.
On the other hand, the Sabres aren't worried about Kane's injury status.
Kane had season-ending shoulder surgery earlier this week and his recovery time is expected to be four to six months. But the Sabres have the worst record in the NHL and are hoping to land prized prospect Connor McDavid in the draft. Regardless of who the Sabres take, adding the 23-year-old Kane to the mix could make Buffalo's rebuilding process go quicker.
Bogosian, 24, who scored three goals and 10 assists for the Jets this season, is a top-six defenceman.
