It was a golden day for Canada at the freestyle world championships Sunday in Kreischberg, Austria.
Montreal`s Justine Dufour-Lapointe won her first world moguls title after a convincing win over the field.
Dufour-Lapointe, the reigning Olympic champion, improved her position by two spots from the 2011 worlds in Norway when she earned a bronze medal.
"I'm extremely happy with how I skied today," said Dufour-Lapointe, also the Olympic gold medallist. "My plan was simple. I wanted to find balance between speed and technique. I stayed calm and focused during the day. I was really in a zone. To get the Olympic gold medal and now the World Championship gold medal is a dream come true. I've grown so much since the Olympic and learned a lot. That experience helped me here."
Mikael Kingsbury, of Deux-Montagnes, Que., failed his attempt to repeat as world champion but still managed to take home a silver medal. The Olympic silver medallist had a slight miscalculation on his first jump of the super final.

"I'm a little bit disappointed with my final run," said Kingsbury. "I had a great run in qualifications, but there was a huge gap between runs and the course changed quite a bit. I had a little bit of trouble slowing down during the super final. Tomorrow is a new day and we get to compete in the duals event. I'm going to give it my all to win that."
It was a bittersweet day for Dufour-Lapointe siblings. While older sister Maxime finished fourth, Chloe, the 2013 world dual moguls champion, failed to qualify for the finals. The result left her in tears.
On the men`s side, Philippe Marquis, from Quebec City, did not finish his run and officially finished sixth overall. Fellow Quebec City native Simon Pouliot-Cavanagh didn`t qualify for the finals and ended the day in 17th place.
Gough 4th in Luge
Calgary`s Alex Gough just missed another podium finish after placing fourth in the women`s luge event in Oberhof, Germany. Gough, who won silver in her first two races, has won 20 World Cup and two world championship medals Her strong performance Sunday included two personal best start times, and only a German sweep kept her off the podium.
Calgary`s Kim McRae slid to 12th spot, while Arianne Jones, another Calgarian, finished 19th.
Gough also helped lead Canada`s relay team to a fourth-place finish. Gough, along with Calgary natives Sam Edney, Tristan Walker and Justin Snith placed four for the second time in as many weeks.

Kripps shines on Saturday
Bobsledder Justin Kripps, from Summerland, B.C., and Barnett, of Edmonton, won bronze in the two-man bobsleigh event in Koenigssee, Germany with a two-run time of one minute, 42.19 seconds.
The Canadians certainly love racing on this track. Last season, Kripps and Barnett won gold in the two-man competition just weeks before the 2014 Olympic Winter Games.
"I had good start times and good runs so everything came together," said Kripps. "I love Konigssee. I like the flow of the track. There is a great atmosphere here with lots of fans. The music is playing and the track just fits my driving style."
Calgary's Chris Spring and Alexander Kopacz, of London, Ont., finish 12th in 1:43.16.

Edney 11th in Luge
Calgary's Sam Edney posted the best time for a Canadian sled in the men's singles race after combining a two-run time of 1:27.774 in Oberhof, Germnay.
The Canadian duo of Tristan Walker (Cochrane, Alta.) and Justin Snith (Calgary), had a tough day, crashing in Corner 12 which dropped them into 20th place.
The 23-year-olds slid to a two-run time of 1:37.163.
Greszczyszyn 16th in skeleton
Dave Greszczyszyn finished as the top Canadian in the men's skeleton race. The 35-year-old Brampton, Ont. native slid to 16th-place, posting a time of 1:44.35 in Koenigssee, Germany.
Calgarians, Barrett Martineau and Evan Neufeldt, finished 18th and 19th, respectively.
