Lupul injured again
The Toronto Maple Leafs announced Friday that forward Joffrey Lupul would be out indefinitely due to a broken right hand. The accident-prone Leafs winger sustained the injury during practice on Thursday. Reports claim Lupul stepped on a stick and fell. He finished practice, and travelled to Columbus with the team. An X-ray was performed in Columbus, revealing the break. Lupul hasn't missed a game yet this season, and has two goals and three points in nine games. Last season, he missed 13 games with foot and groin injuries. Matt Frattin filled in for Lupul in the Maple Leafs 4-1 victory against the Columbus Blue Jackets.
Burrows suspended 3 games
The NHL's department of player safety suspended Vancouver Canucks winger Alex Burrows for a late, illegal hit to the head of Montreal Canadiens defenceman Alexei Emelin. Burrows's first suspension will have him sit out three games. The hit came during Vancouver's 3-2 overtime victory over Montreal on Thursday night. The NHL claimed that the nature of the hit, as well as his four previous fines factored into the decision. No penalty was assessed on the play, and Emelin returned to the game.
Leafs continue road dominance
The Toronto Maple Leafs won their second game in a row for the first time since Oct. 14. They convincingly downed the injury ravaged Columbus Blue Jackets (4-6-0) 4-1 at the Nationwide Arena. Daniel Winnik recorded his 50th career goal, which was also his first goal as a Maple Leaf in his 500th NHL game. Linemates Nazem Kadri and Phil Kessel each had a goal, with Kessel registering his sixth of the season. Jonathan Bernier stopped 28 shots, and was close to earning back-to-back shutouts for the first time in his career when the Blue Jacket's Cam Atkinson scored on the power play at 10:40 in the third period. The win improved the Leafs record to 5-4-1. It also marks the Leafs' continued road success. They have at least a point in each of their road games this season, now going 3-0-1 away from home.
Flames get 2nd home win

The Calgary Flames (6-4-2) are another Canadian team struggling to win at home. Their 4-3 victory over the Nashville Predators improves their home record to 2-2-2. The Predators (6-2-2) sit atop the Central Division, and Friday's loss is their first of the season in regulation on the road. This is a big win for the Flames, who have struggled recently losing key players like Matt Stajan, Joe Colborne, and Mason Raymond to injury. The team's youth stepped up in their absence, as Sean Monahan, T.J. Brodie, and Johnny Gaudreau each chipped in with a goal tonight. Gaudreau's goal was his second of the season, both game-winners. The Flames are undefeated when he scores a goal. They are also undefeated in regulation in games where he has registered a point (2-0-2).
