Three Canadian teams were featured in Tuesday night's NHL action. The Toronto Maple Leafs and Calgary Flames each skated to impressive victories, while the Edmonton Oilers were humbled by the Stanley Cup champion Los Angeles Kings.

Reimer takes advantage
Jonathan Bernier started off as the Toronto Maple Leafs' No. 1 goaltender. But losses to Montreal and Pittsburgh in the team's opening two games opened the door for James Reimer, who's definitely has staken advantage of his opportunities. After defeating the Rangers on Sunday, Reimer was even better in the Leafs' 3-2 overtime win over the Colorado Avalanche at Air Canada Centre. Has a goalie controversy emerged in Toronto? Overtime had hardly begun when Phil Kessel swept out from behind the net and pumped in the game winner.
Flames prevail in SO
After allowing 10 goals in three games, the Calgary Flames knew they'd need to tighten things up in Nashville if they had any hope of knocking off the previously unbeaten Predators. On goals by T.J, Brodie and Mark Giordano, the Flames offset markers by Filip Forsberg and Mike Ribeiro. With overtime settling nothing, the teams went to a shootout. It was there that Flames goalie Karri Ramo stole the show as he turned aside all three Nashville attempts. Joe Colborne scored the only goal the Flames would need as they evened their record at 2-2 with the 3-2 shootout triumph.
Kings dismantle Oilers
For the third straight game since the season began, the night wasn't kind to the Edmonton, spoiling the NHL debut of promising Oilers defenceman Darnell Nurse. Goaltender Viktor Fasth's evening ended in the first period after suffering a groin injury. Los Angeles didn't show any mercy, hammering their division foes 6-1. The Oilers weren't helped by the absence of Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Jordan Eberle, with both top-line forwards out with undisclosed injuries on the second stop of a three-game trip. Edmonton has allowed 15 goals on 95 shots in their three losses.
Battle of New York
Let's see: it was the Rangers who went to the Eastern Conference final last year and who have dominated the recent series against the cross-county rival New York Islanders. The Rangers have taken at least a point in 20 of their last 25 meetings. Not Tuesday night. The Islanders (3-0-0) had no problems at Madison Square Garden, beating up on the Rangers 6-3 to remain perfect on the season.
Streaking Sharks
The San Jose Sharks joined some pretty exclusive company as one of only six teams since 1943-44 to start the year with a pair of shutouts. Could they make it three straight as they visited the Washington Capitals? The first period could not have gone much better for the Sharks. They quickly produced three goals, two by rookie Matt Irwin and Antti Niemi kept the shutout streak intact. However, the streak would come to an end at 142 minutes, 51 seconds after a Capitals goal in the second period. Still, the Sharks escaped with their third win in as many tries, skating away with a 6-5 shootout win.
