A record number of communities entered, nearly 16 million votes were cast, and Sylvan Lake, Alta., has been crowned Kraft Hockeyville 2014.
NHL commissioner Gary Bettman made the announcement live during Saturday night's Hockey Night in Canada broadcast.
This year's edition of the annual contest took on an East vs. West theme, with 532 communities vying to be called Kraft Hockeyville this year.
The Western Canada community finalist took the top prize, and Sylvan Lake's Medican Multi-plex will receive $100,000 in arena upgrades, a visit from CBC, and will host an NHL pre-season game.
The teams participating in that game were announced on Sunday, with the Calgary Flames and Phoenix Coyotes facing off.
"We are thrilled that Sylvan Lake, Alberta has deservingly earned the title of Kraft Hockeyville for 2014," Flames President of Hockey Operations Brian Burke said in a release. "The Calgary Flames are very proud of our Alberta roots and have made it a priority to be a strong supporter of our community's well-being. We look forward to celebrating our great game with Flames fans in Sylvan."
The Eastern Canada community finalist, Kingston, N.S., will also receive $100,000 for arena upgrades to its Credit Union Centre.
