Daniel Alfredsson will make his first public appearance since signing with the Detroit Red Wings.
The Royal Mental Health Centre said Wednesday the former Ottawa Senators captain will hold a news conference on Thursday at 11 a.m. at their Carling Avenue location.
The news release said Alfredsson "will take this opportunity to give his thanks to the community and to bring further attention to mental health, which he has so actively championed."
Alfredsson specifically mentioned The Royal and the Boys and Girls Club as charities he wants to keep supporting during his introductory news conference with the Red Wings.
The former Senators captain is the all-time leader in games played, goals and points for the team. He left the team he'd played 17 seasons for on July 5, saying he felt he had a better chance of winning a Stanley Cup in Detroit.
He had been in Sweden for the early part of the summer, but there have been recent Twitter sightings of him around Ottawa.
