Resulting 3-pointer was eventual game-winner

The opening day of March Madness had its share of upsets and now some controversy as well.
In some cases, both.
Eleventh-seeded UCLA defeated No. 5 SMU after goaltending was called on a 3-point attempt by UCLA's Bryce Alford.
At first glance, the ball looks like it's well off the mark and not above the cylinder, although the defender undoubtedly touches the ball on its way down.
However, there appears to be a slight possibility that the shot had a chance at touching the rim.
The part of the NCAA rule that applies would appear to be the following:
- "The ball is on its downward flight and is above the level of the ring and has the possibility, while in flight, of entering the basket and is not touching the cylinder."
Have your say: Was goaltending the correct call?
