Thursday night saw the Flames get a little closer to the Stanley Cup playoffs, while the Canadiens, Canucks and Leafs all stumbled.
Here's are four stories from the NHL:
Monahan sets career record and ends drought
The Calgary Flames' Sean Monahan scored a goal that ended a 208-minute and 25 second drought for the Flames in Boston. It was also a career-high, 23rd goal of the season for the 20-year-old forward.
The last Calgary player to score in Boston was Alex Tanguay during the third period of a game on Oct. 19, 2006.
The Flames 4-3 shootout victory over the Bruins broke another drought as well, as the team had not won on the road against the Bruins since 2003.
David Schlemko made a triumphant debut as a Flame, scoring a beautiful shootout winner you have to see below.
Habs rally falls short in L.A.
It was a better effort for the Canadiens in Los Angeles, but the Habs still dropped their third consecutive game on their California trip. Down 2-0, Montreal rallied for three straight goals and appeared to steal the game. But a power-play goal by Kings forward Marian Gaborik — his second of the game — tied the score 3-3 with 45 seconds remaining regulation time.
After overtime solved nothing, the Kings won 4-3 in the shootout when centre Anze Kopitar scored on his attempt and Canadiens counterpart Lars Eller hit the point on his try.
Dustin Tokarski got the start for the Habs in net, making his tenth start of the season as Carey Price got a much deserved night off.
Canucks time travel to 1996
It was throwback night in Arizona where the lowly Coyotes adorned their original jerseys and ended a 10-game losing streak, beating the Canucks in a shootout 3-2.
Vancouver's loss, combined with Calgary's victory, means the Canucks are only one point ahead of the Flames in the Pacific Division, hanging on to seventh spot in the Western Conference.
Vancouver's Chris Higgins and Jannik Hansen connected on a give-and-go play to start the scoring for the Canucks in the third period.
Alice Cooper inspired Coyotes goalie Mike Smith to paint his helmet in honour of the rock star.
Leafs play like the Leafs
It was another tough night for fans in Toronto, where the Leafs lost, (shocking I know), to the Lightning 4-2 with goals from four different Tampa Bay players and two assists from Steve Stamkos.
The game can pretty much be summed up by the opening goal, where the Lightning's Nikita Kucherov was left so wide open, he had time to file his taxes before sniping a top-shelf goal past goalie Jonathan Bernier.
It wasn't all bad for the Leafs as forward David Booth showed the team still has their moments, stripping Tampa Bay's Cedric Paquette of the puck and chipping home a pass from Peter Holland.
