The common thread in Tuesday night's NHL games involving Canadian teams was goaltending, with two of the best facing off in Montreal, another one pulled in Winnipeg and the starter debate heating up in Ottawa.
Here are three stories from the night's action:
Price loses goaltending showdown
Two of the league's best goalies met in Montreal in a 1-0 Tampa Bay Lightning overtime victory against the Canadiens.
Forward Tyler Johnson had the lone goal to beat star goalie Carey Price, who was tested much more frequently than counterpart Ben Bishop.
Facing 36 shots, Price put in another standout performance to give Montreal a chance at its first win over Tampa Bay this season.
The Canadiens, who were outshot 10-2 in the final frame, were able to steal a point because of huge saves like the one on Ryan Callahan with 9:33 remaining in the game.
On the other end of the ice, Ben Bishop extended his dominance over Montreal to a career record of 8-1-2 and posted his third shutout of the season in the process.
The 6-foot-7 goalie had a highlight-reel save of his own when he stopped a second-period rebound from Jacob de la Rose immediately after shutting down Montreal's top scorer Max Pacioretty.
Jets' comeback comes up short
The Winnipeg Jets stormed back in the third period, but fell short in a 5-4 loss to the St. Louis Blues.
After Winnipeg goalie Michael Hutchinson was pulled for allowing four goals on seven shots, putting them down 4-1, the Jets launched a convincing third-period comeback to tie it up.
Unfortunately, Ondrej Pavelec became the victim of a centre-ice shot that was lobbed from the neutral zone by defenceman Barret Jackman for his second of the season.
A positive footnote in the Jets' loss was forward Michael Frolik extending his point streak to a career-high seven games with the opening goal of the night.
Sens' goalie debate heats up
With red-hot rookie Andrew Hammond on hand, going with Craig Anderson in net for Tuesday's match against the Boston Bruins may not have been the best move for the Ottawa Senators.
The 3-1 loss to the Bruins will only provide fuel to the goaltending debate that led up to Anderson's second consecutive start.
The "Hamburglar" is undefeated in regulation in his eight consecutive starts this season (7-0-1), while Ottawa's veteran goalie has allowed seven goals over two games since returning from injury.
Bruins forward Ryan Spooner, an Ottawa native, had two goals in the second period, his second and third of the year. Senators rookie Matt Puempl had his first of the season in the third for Ottawa's lone goal.
It was a crushing loss for Ottawa, which now trails Boston by seven points for the final Eastern Conference wild card spot.
