Canadian freestyle skier Mikael Kingsbury will have to wait until next season to make World Cup history.
The 22-year-old from Deux-Montagnes, Que., was looking for his 29th moguls title on Sunday, which would have put him ahead of France's Edgar Grospiron for most career gold medals.
But Kingsbury did not finish the quarter-finals in the men's dual moguls at the World Cup event in Megeve, France allowing American Bryon Wilson to advance to the semifinals.
Grospiron's record has stood since 1995.
Sunday's competition was the season finale.
Kingsbury will take home the overall moguls season title after capturing eight gold medals.
Anthony Benna of France defeated American Thomas Rowley in the men's final Sunday.
On the women's side, Chloe Dufour-Lapointe of Montreal won the silver medal after losing to American veteran Hannah Kearney in the final. Justine Dufour-Lapointe rounded out the podium, taking home the bronze.
