The Hamburglar wins again as the Senators move within two of the final wild card spot in the east and the Canadiens, Flames and Jets all strengthen their playoff bids.
Here are six stories from Thursday night's NHL action.
Hamburglar wins again
It was another milestone night for sensational Senators goalie Andrew Hammond. The "Hamburglar" made 31 saves to help lead Ottawa to an important 6-4 victory against the Bruins.
The White Rock, B.C. native is in the middle of an incredible stretch, going 12-0-1 over his first 13 starts. He has earned at least one point in every outing. With this latest win, Hammond moves closer to matching the Penguins' Patrick Lalime's 16-game run during the 1996-97 season where Lalime went 14-0-2 over his first 16 games.
Prior to Thursday, the "Hamburglar" let in two or fewer goals in every start, tying a record set by Hockey Hall of Fame member Frank Brimsek of the Boston Bruins in the 1938-39 season. Hammond is only the second goalie in NHL history to do that over his first 12 starts.
Teammate Curtis Lazar celebrated with a burger.
Senators move within 2 points of Bruins
With the win over Boston, the Senators moved within two points of the Bruins for the final wild card spot in the east and have a game in hand. Ottawa has 81 points and has won five in a row.
It's an impressive win as the Bruins have been very strong lately, winning six out of seven games in March including handing the Senators a 3-1 loss March 10.
Ottawa's Milan Michalek scored the 200th goal of his NHL career in the first period while Jean-Gabriel Pageau showed great patience to put the Sens ahead in the second.
Canadiens undamaged by Hurricanes
The Montreal Canadiens regained sole possession of the top spot in the Atlantic Division, sweeping aside the Carolina Hurricanes in dominant fashion 4-0. It was a timely win for Montreal, which has only won three games in March and is vying for the Presidents' Trophy to secure home-ice advantage in the playoffs.
Canadiens goalie Carey Price earned a league-leading and career-high 39th win of the season, while earning an eighth shutout.
The Habs' Brendan Gallagher scored a career-high 20th goal of the season to put the Habs up 2-0, while Max Pacioretty netted a goal and an assist. Eight different Canadiens recorded a point.
Canucks give up 6 straight goals
The Vancouver Canucks allowed six unanswered goals in their 6-2 loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets after taking an early lead. Despite the tough night, the Canucks hold on to second place in the Pacific Division with 84 points.
Canucks' goalie Eddie Lack was pulled after the fifth goal scored by the Blue Jackets. Colombus' Mark Dano scored two and added an assist for a three-point night.
Johnny Hockey earns 3 points
The Calgary Flames earned a crucial two points with a 4-1 victory over the Flyers, earning the third spot in the Pacific Division. They sit one point behind the Canucks.
Calgary's rookie sensation Johnny "Hockey" Gaudreau earned three points, assisting on goals by T.J. Brodie and Sean Monahan and netting his 20th goal of the season. He now leads all NHL rookies with 56 points this season.
Jets fly to shootout win
The Winnipeg Jets held on to the final wild card spot in the west with a 2-1 shootout win over the St. Louis Blues, and kept hope alive for the club's first playoff appearance since the team returned to Winnipeg in 2011.
The Jets have 84 points and sit one behind the Minnesota Wild in the wild card race.
Jets goalie Ondrej Pavelec stood on his head, notably making a diving save in the second against Blues forward T.J. Oshie.
Winnipeg captain Andrew Ladd scored the winner in the third round of the shootout.
In other Canadian NHL action, the Toronto Maple Leafs lost 4-1 to the San Jose Sharks.
