It was another night of great goals, strong saves and fast moves in the NHL. Two Canadian teams hit the ice with Ottawa losing a tight one to the Capitals and Vancouver getting thumped by the Sharks.
Here's four stories from Thursday night.
Ovechkin scores a highlight winner
Alexander the Great gave the fans in Ottawa another example of why he deserves the nickname, scoring a game-winning goal in memorable fashion.
Alex Ovechkin showed off his baseball skills by batting the puck out of mid-air and into the back of the net during the second period. The Capitals' Jay Beagle took a shot that deflected off Senators goalie Robin Lehner, teeing the puck up for Ovechkin's home-run swing.
This was the Capitals' second goal in 49 seconds, a feat that took the wind out of the Ottawa crowd. The first goal came from another Russian forward, Evgeny Kuznetsov, who tucked in a point-shot rebound.
That was all she wrote for the Senators, who were unable to respond to Washington's two unanswered goals. They lost the game 2-1.
Chris Phillips sets record
It was a big night for one Senator as defenceman Chris Phillips set a franchise record by playing in his 1,179th game, surpassing former captain Daniel Alfredsson.
Alfredsson and another former Senator, Wade Redden, were in the arena to watch Phillips set the record.
He was honoured before the game with a commemorative jersey with the No. 1,179 on the back.
Sharks take a bite out of the Canucks
Have you ever seen the opening scene in Jaws when the shark attacks the lady swimming? Well then you saw what happened in Vancouver as the Canucks were offered up like food bait to San Jose, which skated to 5-1 victory.
The Canucks failed to respond to a feeding-frenzy of goals from the likes of Matt Irwin, Melker Karlsson, Joe Pavelski and Chris Tierney until late in the third period. San Jose added one more from Andrew Desjardins with seconds to go to twist the knife.
This San Jose goal, off a deflection from Canucks forward Nick Bonino, pretty much sums up the night.
Ducks take top of the standings
With a commanding 5-2 victory over the Nashville Predators, the Anaheim Ducks have taken sole possession of the No. 1 spot in the NHL. The Ducks now have 74 points, with the Predators and St. Louis Blues close behind with 72 points each.
And not to be out done by the Capitals, the Ducks put on a scoring clinic of their own, putting two pucks in the net in 43 seconds.
It started with a beautiful pass to the front of the net from Rickard Rakell after he undressed Nashville defenceman Mattias Ekholm. The puck was one-timed by Matt Beleskey.
That all-star goal was followed up by a light touch from Jakob Silfverberg off a point-shot that faked out netminder Pekka Rinne.
