The Canadiens' Tomas Plekanec earned four points, the Leafs went 0-4 on the road and the Oilers end their road losing streak.

Plekanec gets 4 points
It was a big night in Montreal where forward Tomas Plekanec helped the Canadiens bring the offence against the surging New York Islanders, scoring two goals and two assists. Plekanec assisted on the Canadiens first two goals and scored in the second and third periods to complete his four-point outing.
The Habs went on to defeat the Islanders 6-4, ending New York's four game winning streak.
Andrei Markov was no slouch either, assisting on three goals.
P.K. Subban got things going for the Habs with a goal in the first. Subban's goal was his 10th of the season, equalling his goal total for last season. This year it only took him 44 games to get to the mark while last season it took 82 games.
Dale Weise, Alex Galchenyuk and David Desharnais also scored for the Habs.
Halak gets pulled
Former Canadiens goalie Jaroslav Halak was pulled from the game for the Islanders in the third period after allowing Plekanec's second goal. It was a disappointing game for Halak who had previously never lost to his former club. He had gone 4-0 allowing only four goals during that stretch before allowing all six of Montreal's goals during this game.
The Islanders started Halak Friday against the Penguins making this the second time he started back-to-back on consecutive nights this season. He played better against Pittsburgh, stopping 21 shots during the Islanders 6-3 victory.
Leafs can't score, go 0-4 on road trip
The Toronto Maple Leafs sang the blues as they were shut out against St. Louis 3-0. Blues goalie Brian Elliott stopped all challenges, making 27 saves and earning his third shutout of the season. While shots were fairly even for the game, the Leafs only managed four shots on net during the second period.
The Leafs were outscored 12-1 on their road trip proving once and again that the troubles with the club go deeper than the head coach. The team has only won once in January.
Blues forward and former Leaf Alexander Steen extended his scoring streak to nine games with a goal and an assist. This is the longest scoring streak in Steen's career.
Oilers end 14 game road losing streak
The Edmonton Oilers notched a dubious milestone, ending a franchise-record 14-game road losing streak with a 3-2 shootout victory over the Florida Panthers. The Oilers won for the first time in four games and earned only their third road win this season.
Nail Yakupov scored the shoot out winner in his first time participating in an NHL shootout.
Edmonton got a shorthanded goal from Matt Hendricks to tie things up in the third, setting up the extra frame. This was the second game in a row that Edmonton earned a shorthanded goal.
Sens lose but Flames win
In other Canadian NHL action, the Ottawa Senators lost 3-2 in a tight one against the Carolina Hurricanes. Despite the loss, the Senators' David Legwand and Mark Stone extended their point streaks to five games with an assist and a goal respectively.
The Calgary Flames were also in action, visiting the San Jose Sharks as part of a five-game road trip. The Flames went up 2-0 before San Jose got back in the game with the score getting up to 3-3 and going to overtime. The Flames' Sean Monahan scored an unassisted goal to win it for Calgary.
