The Vancouver Canucks were the only Canadian team to skate to a victory as the Montreal Canadiens, Ottawa Senators and Edmonton Oilers all lost their respective games.

Canucks surge past Islanders
A pair of long scoring droughts ended in Vancouver that also helped the Canucks to a 3-2 win over the Islanders. Nick Bonino and Linden Vey scored in the second period to help give the Canucks a 3-1 lead. Ryan Stanton scored Vancouver's opening goal in the first period. It was his first goal in more than a year.
Mikhail Grabovski would score in the third period to bring the Islanders to within one, but Vancouver goalie Eddie Lack made 21 saves during his first start since Dec. 17 which preserved the win. However, the Canucks lost Brad Richardson to a lower-body injury in the second period.
The victory improves Vancouver's record to 23-12-3 and the team is 5-1-1 over its last seven games.
Lightning grap top spot in East
The Lightning (26-12-4) snapped the Montreal Canadiens' six-game winning streak while also taking top spot in the Eastern Conference following a 4-2 win.
Tyler Johnson scored twice in a four-goal second period for the Lightning, who fell behind 1-0 after a first-period goal by Canadiens forward Dale Weise. It's the first time in 17 games that the Habs (26-12-2) lost after scoring first.
The Lightning have now beaten Montreal both times this season, outscoring Montreal 11-3.
Flyers' Simmonds plays hero
Wayne Simmonds played the hero in the Flyers' 2-1 shootout win over the Senators at the Wells Fargo Center. Simmonds scored the tying goal more than two minutes after Mike Hoffman gave Ottawa (16-15-8) a 1-0 lead in the third period. He then scored the winner in the shootout, moving Philadelphia's record of 15-18-7 closer to the .500 mark.
Ottawa's Mika Zibanejad and Philadelphia's Jake Voracek each scored on the opening shots of the tiebreaker.
Neither team scored in the next three rounds. Simmonds then punched in the winner against Craig Anderson to give the Flyers their first shootout victory in six tries this season. The Flyers had lost 10 straight shootouts overall.
Red Wings continue hold on Oilers
The Oilers (9-23-9) were 34 seconds way from forcing overtime, then a pass in the crease that went off the stick of Edmonton winger Matt Hendricks changed everything. The goal was credited to Wings centre Pavel Datsyuk and Detroit (21-10-9) went on to win 4-2.
The victory snapped the Wings' mini two-game losing streak and stretched their dominance over the Oilers with a seventh straight win.
Edmonton is now 2-1-2 under the sole direction of interim head coach Todd Nelson.
