Anaheim Duck's forward Corey Perry left in the first period of Friday night's game against the Minnesota Wild with a lower-body injury. The Duck's No. 1 goal scorer took a hip check from Wild defenceman Keith Ballard.

There was no penalty called on the play, but Perry's teammate Nate Thompson fought Ballard minutes later. There is some debate about Ballard's play. He has a habit of making hip checks that many consider textbook, but other players often take objection. See the play below and decide for yourself.

Anaheim reported via Twitter that Perry would likely not be returning to the game.

Back to Ballard's habits, take a look at some of his hip checks from the past. In most cases he was penalized, and the opposing team retaliated.

There was also that one night when Ballard took out goalie Tomas Vokoun, his teammate at the time (Note: it was an accident).
