It was an eventful Thursday night in the NHL with Daniel Alfredsson's retirement ceremony, the return of Martin Brodeur, and a couple Canadian teams extending their winning streaks.
Here are the four stories from Thursday.
Alfie Night in Ottawa
The Senators failed to get a victory on the night that they honoured former captain Daniel Alfredsson. Ottawa signed the 41-year-old forward to a ceremonial one-day contract, which allowed him to officially retire on the team he played with for 17 years.
Alfredsson skated in the pre-game warmup with the Sens, and even donned the "C" on his jersey as he skated alongside current captain Erik Karlsson. The tribute video and ceremony that followed brought No. 11 to tears.
Unfortunately, the Senators were not able to win their game for Alfie. New York Islanders forward Casey Cizikas scored the tie-breaker in the third to put his team up 2-1.
New York Islanders goalie Jaroslav Halak broke a franchise record by winning his 11th straight. In that span he has only allowed 14 goals against.
Brodeur reboots
Martin Brodeur completed his comeback by suiting up in his first start for the St. Louis Blues. He fell short in his debut, allowing four goals in 24 shots against. The Nashville Predators came away with a 4-3 victory.
The 42-year-old netminder was forced to make two big saves less than a minute into the game, robbing Predators forward Colin Wilson on a virtually one-on-one opportunity.
Wilson got a bit of revenge in the third period by scoring the game-winner. Red-hot Blues forward Vladimir Tarasenko scored two goals in his team's loss. He is now in a three-way tie with Steven Stamkos and Rick Nash for second place in the NHL's goal scoring race with 16. That's still three behind Tyler Seguin.
Canucks remain hot on the road
The Vancouver Canucks are halfway through a seven-game road trip, but that didn't stop them from claiming their league-high 11th road victory. Vancouver blanked the Pittsburgh Penguins 3-0, with goalie Eddie Lack earning his first shutout of the season.
Canucks forward Brad Richardson had two goals, including an embarrassing steal off Penguins goalie Thomas Greiss.
Flames win 4th straight
The Calgary Flames claimed their fourth straight victory 4-3 in overtime to down the visiting Colorado Avalanche. Flames forward Dennis Wideman had two goals, and Sean Monahan scored the game-winner less than two minutes into extra time.
Calgary is now only one point behind the division leading Vancouver Canucks and Anaheim Ducks in the Pacific.
Head coach Bob Hartley, who once stood behind the Avs bench, won his 400th as an NHL coach. To celebrate the milestone, the team had their coach don the Flame's fire helmet.
