While there wasn't a Stanley Cup banner raising or any Dion being Dion moments, night No. 2 of the 2014-15 NHL season had its fair share of notable events. The Habs and Jets picked up wins, the Senators dropped their opener in Nashville, and the Flames won the first edition of the Battle of Alberta.
But here are a few of the stories beyond the boxscores:
Department of Player Safety's... Chris Pronger?
No, you don't need to check your eyesight. Or your sanity. This is a thing that has (reportedly) happened. The oft-suspended defenceman (eight times over his career, but who's counting?) may soon, officially, have a job with the league's disciplinarian division.
Not exactly an ideal start
Both teams may have won on Thursday night, but losing a key player before the first game of the season is even in the books kind of puts a damper on the whole thing, y'know?
Former Prime Ministers on skates
The Ottawa Senators took a page out of the Washington Nationals' book and unveiled famous politicians as intermission entertainment for their home games.
Baseball may have the "racing presidents," but the Sens can now boast (?) mascots dressed like Sir John A.MacDonald, Sir Wilfrid Laurier, William Lyon MacKenzie King and Sir Robert Borden that will race around the ice to the delight (?) of the Canadian Tire Centre crowd.
Jagr records point No. 1,756, will play until roughly that age
His assist on Mike Cammalleri's goal against the Flyers moved Jaromir Jagr out of a tie with Steve Yzerman (who's now vice president and GM in Tampa Bay, because you know, not everyone can play in the NHL for half their lives) for sole possession of sixth place on the NHL's all-time scoring list.
The 42-year-old Jagr notched his 1,756th point in his 21st NHL season, and on the same day as his delightful exchange with Devils TV analyst Ken Daneyko.
Jumbotron trolls opposing fan
At least he's laughing, right? (Yeah, but we all know he's crying on the inside. While humming The Fratellis.)
