Sidney Crosby arrest 'never happened,' police say

Ottawa police are denying a report that NHL superstar Sidney Crosby was arrested.

The Ottawa Sun posted a story on its website in which sources were quoted as saying the Pittsburgh Penguins captain was arrested late Tuesday in Ottawa while driving a rented Porsche.

The report, since removed from the Sun's website, said the reason for the arrest was unknown but that it appeared to be "driving related."

Ottawa police staff sergeant Stephen Hodgson told CBC News Network that the report is "completely false."

"He was never stopped, never arrested by Ottawa police, so somebody lied. I have no knowledge of him being in Ottawa," Hodgson said.

Ottawa police Chief Charles Bordeleau also tweeted that the police "have had no dealings with Mr. Crosby."

The Penguins said Crosby is training with the team in Vail, Colo. A Vail police spokesperson told CBC Ottawa that there is no one by the name of Sidney Crosby in their system, and Colorado State Police said they have had no contact with Crosby.

Crosby, 27, led the NHL in scoring last season for the second time and won his second Hart Trophy as the league's most valuable player.

The Penguins open their official training camp later this month.
