The debut of wheelchair rugby and return of football-7-a side are two things to look forward to as the Parapan American Games in Toronto are officially one year away.
The world-class competition will bring together 2,400 athletes and officials from the Americas and Caribbean in 15 sports across 16 disciplines.
Each of the 15 sports are qualifiers for the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
An edgy video entitled, Are You Ready, was released Thursday that highlights the intense training regimens of the athletes and different skills unique to their sport:
In the video, wheelchair basketball player David Eng is featured doing a chin-up while strapped into his wheelchair.
Also, cyclist Jaye Milley, born with his legs and arms underdeveloped, is shown doing a leg press and lifting 380 pounds with one leg.
The video asks viewers if they are ready for a fresh perspective on athleticism and competition, and a twist on sports such as basketball and cycling.
Mexico City hosted the first Parapan Am Games in 1998, attracting 1,000 athletes from 18 countries competing in four sports.
The most recent Games were held in Guadalajara, Mexico in 2011 and featured 13 sports and 1,310 athletes.
You will be able to catch the action on all of CBC's platforms, including television, online, mobile and radio.
