Some advance scouting advice for South Vancouver manager Brian Perry ahead of this week's Little League World Series: Beware Mo'Ne Davis and her 70-mile-per-hour fastball.
The 13-year-old from Philadelphia became the first girl to pitch a complete-game (six-inning) shutout in a LLWS-clinching game, leading the Taney (Pa.) Dragons over Delaware-Newark National LL on Sunday.
Davis used the fastball and a curveball to strike out six and limit her opponent to three hits in the 8-0 victory, a game that was broadcast nationally on ESPN.
She'll become the 17th girl to play in the LLWS in 68 years. The tournament begins Thursday in Williamsport, Pa.
Davis didn't play any sports until age 6 and now she's playing basketball, soccer and baseball. She tried softball at an earlier age before switching to baseball.
When Davis was younger, people would question her abilities because of her gender.
"People would say: 'Look, they got a girl on the team,'" her mother Lakeisha McLane told ABC News. "She wasn't bothered at all."
The soon-to-be Grade 8 student said her dreams won't end this week at the LLWS.
"I'll probably either be the first female in the MLB or in the NBA," Davis said.
