Sidney Crosby is scheduled to have arthroscopic surgery on his right wrist, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette is reporting.
An unnamed source "close to Crosby" told the Post-Gazette that Crosby played with "a terrible wrist" in the playoffs, when he recorded only one goal and nine points in 13 games as the Penguins went out in the second round.
Crosby never indicated he was playing hurt during the post-season.
The source said the surgery "is not major" and Crosby isn't expected to miss any regular-season games.
Crosby decided to have the procedure after therapy was ineffective, the source said.
Crosby won the NHL scoring title with 104 points in 80 regular-season games, the most he's played since appearing in 81 contests in 2009-10.
The 26-year-old was awarded the Hart Trophy as the league's most valuable player for the second time in his career.
