Canada's Eugenie Bouchard is trying to become the first Canadian singles tennis player to reach a Grand Slam final as she faces Romania's Simona Halep at Wimbledon.
Bouchard, the No. 13 seed from the Montreal area, has started her semifinal match against the third-seeded Halep at the All England Club.
The winner will face Petra Kvitova in the final. The sixth-seeded Czech defeated No. 23 Lucie Safarova in the other semifinal earlier.
Kvitova, a powerful lefty, won Wimbledon in 2011.
Bouchard is appearing in her third consecutive Grand Slam semifinal. She lost in the final four of the Australian and French Opens earlier this season.
On Friday, Canadian Milos Raonic faces seven-time Wimbledon champion Roger Federer in the men's semifinals.
Raonic and Bouchard are the first Canadian singles players in the Open era to reach the Wimbledon semis.
