Kevin Koe's Calgary rink has earned a spot in the playoffs at the men's world championship of curling in Beijing with a 7-5 triumph over Scotland.
The victory, combined with Japan's 6-4 loss to China, means Canada will face Norway's Thomas Ulsrud in the Page playoff 1-2 game.
Canada, which closed the round-robin at 8-3, left the Scottish rink skipped by Ewan MacDonald at 3-7.
"We lose that game and we could be in a tiebreaker or something," Koe said. "The big thing was just to win and get in the playoffs and if we were in the 3-4 game, that was fine with us — we've done it before.
"But to get in the 1-2 game with an extra life? That's a bonus, for sure."
Koe and MacDonald waged a see-saw through the first five ends and were tied 2-2 until Koe broke free with a deuce in the sixth. Scotland tied the game 4-4 in the seventh at before Koe scored another pair in the eighth end.
"It seems like all of our games, either we've won easy or lost easy," Koe said. "So it's good for us to have a battle, tied up or close the whole way through and to pull it out with a shot in the 10th feels good."
Norway, which locked up first place Thursday morning with a 6-4 win over the United States, improved to 10-1 with a 7-6 win over Switzerland in the late draw.
The other late game saw the Czech Republic edge Denmark 8-7.
Koe's Calgary rink began the day with a 11-5 rout over Germany.
"We woke up today just worried about making sure that we made the playoffs," said Koe, who won the 2010 worlds in Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy.
Koe scored four points in the second end and four more in the fourth end to prompt handshakes after seven.
Koe opened the scoring in the first end with a single, and also scored two points in the seventh and final end.
Germany, skipped by Felix Schulze, didn't get on the board until the third end, when he scored a single point. Schulze also scored three in the fifth end and one more in the sixth.
