Canadian Olympic hockey hopeful Logan Couture will have hand surgery on Wednesday morning and miss 3-4 weeks, according to multiple reports.

The reports surfaced of the San Jose Sharks sniper's injury on the eve of Team Canada unveiling the squad it will send to the Sochi Winter Games next month (Watch the announcement live on Tuesday at 11 a.m. ET on CBCSports.ca).

Couture's Olympic status is now unclear, but Team Canada general manager Steve Yzerman and his staff have the option of naming players to the squad and replacing them later if they can't suit up due to injury.

Couture, 24, is enjoying a strong season with 14 goals and 21 assists in 43 games. The six-foot-one, 200-pound winger is a former first-round pick of the Sharks (ninth overall in 2007).

The Guelph, Ont., native has 103 goals and 202 points in 275 games and signed a five-year, $30-million US contract extension with San Jose this past summer.
