Ryan Getzlaf left the ice with a towel pressed tightly against his face on Tuesday night.

It was the item the Anaheim Ducks star used to stop the bleeding after he took a nasty hit from behind from Detroit Red Wings defender Kyle Quincey late in the first period of Anaheim's 5-2 win.

Getzlaf's face smashed into the boards as Quincey levelled him, forcing the Ducks forward to leave the game. He would later return after receiving stitches.

The Red Wings blue-liner got five minutes for boarding and a game misconduct for the infraction.

Watch the play above to see how it happened. Do you think Quincey should be punished for the hit?
