Forty-two skaters and five goalies will attend Hockey Canada's Olympic orientation camp in late August, but there are plenty of names that didn't make the list released Monday.
Here are some of the notable names that won't be making the trip to Calgary, and some reasons why they could have made the cut.
Goaltenders
Marc-Andre Fleury: The Penguins goalie helped lift his team to the Stanley Cup in 2009 before winning a gold medal as the third goalie for Canada's 2010 entry into the Winter Games. Fleury also earned two silver medals at the world juniors.
Martin Brodeur: The New Jersey Devils goalie has been a part of Team Canada at the Olympics since 1998, and has two gold medals to his credit.
Defencemen
Francois Beauchemin: The imposing blue-liner was tied for 11th overall in plus/minus (+19) in the 2013 season.
Dan Girardi: The New York Rangers' shut-down defender is not scared of getting in the way of the puck, leading his defence-first team in blocked shots.
Forwards
Jarome Iginla: "Iggy!" The man who set up the gold medal-winning goal in 2010 in Vancouver, Iginla likely won't be alongside Sidney Crosby in Sochi.
Jamie Benn: The Stars' young sniper has 82 goals in four NHL seasons.
Patrick Marleau: Fellow Sharks Joe Thornton, Logan Couture, Dan Boyle and Marc-Edouard Vlasic made the list, but the 33-year-old sniper won't be in attendance, despite missing zero games in the last two seasons and scoring 47 goals over that span.
Jason Spezza: The Senators' top centre missed all but five games of the 2013 season due to back surgery, but returned to help his team into the second round of the playoffs. His face-off percentage is north of 50 per cent and he's a natural playmaker.
