As the Chicago Blackhawks hope that veteran scorer Marian Hossa returns to the lineup, the Boston Bruins got another dose of inspiration from injured grinder Gregory Campbell. This and more in the top NHL stories from Tuesday:
1. It turns out that Marian Hossa's peek-a-boo performance in the warmups Monday was just part of coach Joel Quenneville's plan. The Blackhawks knew all along that there was a chance the Slovakian scorer would sit out their 2-0 loss to the Bruins in Game 3. Hossa was a late scratch and was listed as day-to-day with an upper-body injury, but Quenneville said it's "likely" the winger will be back for Game 4 (CBC, CBCSports.ca, 7:30 p.m. ET).
2. Bruins forward Gregory Campbell downplayed his heroics on the penalty kill when he spoke to the media for the first time since breaking his leg in the Eastern Conference final against the Pittsburgh Penguins. "I'd rather be known for my play other than getting hurt," said Campbell with crutches by his side and a cast on his leg. Fellow penalty killer Daniel Paille is also getting some overdue recognition after netting a couple game winners, writes CBCSports.ca's Tim Wharnsby.
3. Slava Voynov knows all about scoring big post-season goals, enough to land the Los Angeles Kings defenceman a new six-year, $25-million US contract. Voynov set single-season franchise records with six playoff markers by a defenceman, and four of those were game-winning goals. Elsewhere, the Detroit Red Wings checked off the biggest task on their to-do list by extending Pavel Datsyuk, the San Jose Sharks have reportedly locked up Logan Couture, and it looks like it might be a done deal between the Philadelphia Flyers and Mark Streit.
