New York Rangers defenceman Michael Del Zotto is wishing he doesn't get a very unwanted phone call, while the Pittsburgh Penguins are hoping they don't lose the services of another star forward. With 8:42 remaining in the third period, Penguins forward James Neal chased the puck behind the Rangers' net. Del Zotto, who was first to the puck and right in front of Neal, turned into the Pittsburgh winger and delivered a jarring elbow to his chin, which is an incident league discipline czar Brendan Shanahan might have on his radar.
Neal, a 25-year-old native of Whitby, Ont., was knocked down and lay on the ice in obvious pain as trainers attended to him. He was escorted off the ice and forced to leave the game. The six-foot-two, 208-pound winger did not return, and Del Zotto avoided a penalty on the play.
Head coach Dan Bylsma said after the game there was no immediate word on Neal's status.
Take a look at the hit here:
Should Del Zotto be suspended? Should he be fined? Or was this a clean hit that should go unpunished? Let us know what you think in the comments section below.
