Montreal Canadiens defenceman Alexei Emelin obviously didn't know who he was lining up for a hit on Saturday. If the 26-year-old Russian had known, he wouldn't have made the foolish decision to go after Boston Bruins bruiser Milan Lucic.

If the 26-year-old Russian had known, he wouldn't have made the foolish decision to go after Boston Bruins forward Milan Lucic.

With Lucic carrying the puck towards the Bruins' bench area, Emelin attempted a check on the 230-pounder bruiser.

Instead, Emelin bounced off Lucic like a tennis ball off a brick wall.

The Canadiens blue-liner then fell against the boards. Emelin was in obvious pain and was taken to the dressing room, appearing to favour his left leg.

He did not return to the game. 

(UPDATE: Hockey Night in Canada's Andi Petrillo reported that Emelin was seen leaving the Bell Centre on crutches and wearing a brace on his left leg.)
