Talk about timing.
Buffalo defenceman Tyler Myers, mentioned in one more than one online poll one year out from Sochi as a possible defence selection for Team Canada, was given a seat in the press box for the team's weekend games against the New York Islanders and Boston Bruins, the latter the team that drilled Sabres goalie Ryan Miller last season without reprisal from Myers or others on the ice.
No big deal. Myers only rakes in nearly $7 million US for this shortened season and is under contract through 2018-19.
He has one goal in 11 games, with a minus-9 rating.
Myers and Alex Goligoski are the biggest eye-openers in this regard, players given a big, fat second contract based on a small body of work.
Others on the list include youngsters experiencing growing pains (Adam Larsson, Mikael Granlund), and old guys who could use the rest. On that note, we couldn't help but notice some, ahem, out of shape hockey writers penning snide tweets when the near 40-year-old Alex Kovalev was sat by Florida last week.

Goalies can't really be healthy scratches, but workhorse Cam Ward of Carolina was atypically on the bench for three of his team's first 10 starts.
