A judge in Pretoria, South Africa, is recapping arguments made over the last few days before he rules on a bail application for Olympic athlete Oscar Pistorius, who is charged with murder in the death of his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp.
Chief Magistrate Desmond Nair will rule on whether the double amputee should remain in custody pending his trial.
Pistorius is accused of deliberately shooting Steenkamp through a closed door at his home in the early morning hours of Feb. 14.
The athlete says he thought he was firing at a burglar.
Nair alllowed an audio-only media feed of his decision after ruling that TV cameras would not be allowed to broadcast the bail hearing.
He said the court must guard against the "distorting effect" of TV editing. Nair said television media reports have the "potential to distort the character of the proceedings."
Nair spoke for about 40 minutes before he took a five-minute break and then resumed his summary. Just before he announced the adjournment, he said the state has so far been presenting circumstantial evidence.
While the judge was delivering his decision, Pistorius could be seen wiping away tears as he listened.
